Possible Title Origin

I realized recently that the title of this blog, “Theoretical Theory”, is similar (in its silliness/redundancy) to a phrase used by Marx and Engels, “Critique of Critical Criticism”, which appeared as the subtitle to their work The Holy Family.  Possibly this phrase unconsciously led to my adoption of the phrase “theoretical theory”?  Who knows, but it is an interesting similarity nonetheless.

  1. Really glad I found this out. It also made me think, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy this, of Marx’s letter to Ruge (1843), where he says: “it is all the more clear what we have to accomplish at present: I am referring to *ruthless criticism* of all that exists, ruthless both in the sense of not being afraid of the results it arrives at and in the sense of being just as little afraid of conflict with the powers that be.”

I would really enjoy seeing what you post!

  2. Thanks Bernard! I do really like that quote – I think it gives much insight into Marx’s way of thinking. Also, I have a couple of draft posts, although I’m not sure when I’ll get around to finishing them…
